Day 2: Manyara - Ngorongoro

We drive to the nature reserve of the Ngorongoro Crater, from whose crater rim you overlook the great caldera.

We embark on an unforgettable safari into the crater, first passing through a lush rainforest that eventually opens up into a Garden of Eden. The abundant wildlife will amaze you! The crater floor is home to more than 25,000 wild animals, including some of Tanzania’s last black rhino, zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, lion, hippo, elephant, moose, hyena, and an array of waterfowl that roam completely free here, finding abundant water and food in a lush landscape of swamps, plains, lakes, and rainforests, making the park one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in the world.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch at the hippo pool

Day 3: Ngorongoro - Serengeti

After breakfast, we take another look at this extraordinary caldera and then drive on a varied route towards Serengeti National Park. We cross remote Maasai country where you will see numerous villages (boma) scattered in a gentle landscape, with many Maasai roaming with their herds. Gradually the landscape changes and gives way to the savannah with its numerous Maasai giraffes. Finally, the Serengeti with its endless plains lies before you.

On your way, you will have the opportunity to visit Olduvai Gorge, where human fossils have been discovered by the Leakey family, indicating that mankind started in Africa.

We will explore the park and go in search of different species of animals. With any luck, we will witness incredible scenes of wildlife life.

The endless plains of the park are home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, elephants, moose, wild dogs, gazelles, crocodiles and many other species. Not to forget a variety of bird species.  Depending on the season, you will witness the great wildebeest and zebra migration.

As soon as we arrive at Engare Sero village, located near small Maasai boma, you will be greeted by children. Giraffes graze on the acacia trees, women carry reeds home for roofing. It is a world with a different, slower time. If you wish, you can refresh yourself in the stream.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge/tent camp or public base camp.

 Meals:

Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 6: Lake Natron

We head to the life-giving stream where, crossing it a few times, we take a 45-minute hike to the falls. Bring your swimsuits, the pools are great for refreshment and lingering!

In the early evening, we will drive to Lake Natron to admire its unique habitat and its flock of millions of birds at sunset. The lake is highly alkaline, hence the name Lake Natron, only three meters deep, reaches temperatures above 40°C (104°F), has no outflow, resulting in high concentrations of salt and soda, and yet algae and brine shrimp thrive here, and even a small cichlid in the mouth of the few streams. Storks, greater flamingos, pelicans and other water birds stay in the estuaries of the creeks by the thousands, while the rest of the lake, which reaches as far as Kenya, belongs to the approximately two million lesser flamingos alone, which can live on the algae and brine shrimp. Near the lake there are fossilized footprints, 120 years old.

Dinner and overnight at lodge/tent camp or public base camp.

Meals:

Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 7: Lake Natron - Arusha

We will leave the lake and drive back to Arusha.
